(You are the ambassador of Welcome, a tiny dot in the Pacific Ocean. You are required to move to Europe, your new work place. You have never been to Europe, the old world, and, to tell the truth, you don't know so much about it. But, you want to create friendly relationships with other ambassadors, especially European ambassadors, so you decide to organise gala dinners. Each of them will have an ambassador as guest of honour. Consequently you make your staff work on the following topics: the history of the state, the cusine, traditions, important dates, famous people. And now, let's work!!)

THE AMBASSADOR

IL LAVORO DELL'AMBASCIATORE E' PIUTTOSTO PARTICOLARE: SEI SEMPRE FUORI CASA, IN GIRO PER IL MONDO, PRESENZI A RICEVIMENTI, PARTECIPI A MISSIONI IN POSTI CHE NON TI SARESTI MAI SOGNATO DI VISITARE. E' UN LAVORO BELLISSIMO E AVVENTUROSO. CI SONO, CERTO, ANCHE MOMENTI IN CUI E' INDISPENSABILE RIMANERE IN AMBASCIATA, SITUAZIONI IN CUI E' NECESSARIO MEDIARE, STRINGERE ACCORDI, TROVARE LE SOLUZIONI MIGLIORI A PROBLEMI DIPLOMATICI DIFFICILI. SONO NECESSARIE, DIREI INDISPENSABILI, UNA GRANDE PREPARAZIONE E UNA INDUBBIA DEDIZIONE AL LAVORO. E BISOGNA CONOSCERE MOLTO BENE LE LINGUE STRANIERE! CHE STUDI HO FATTO? SCIENZE POLITICHE!

(Ambassador's work is quite unusual. You  are always far from home, you are always abroad, you have to attend formal occasions, you have to participate in missions in places where you never thought you would be. It's a wonderful and adventurous job. However, there are moments when you have to settle disputes, when you have to make agreements and find the right solutions for diplomatic problems. You are required to be prepared and dedicated to your job. And, last but not least, you have to speak many languages! What did you have to study? Political science, obviously!)

THE EMBASSY

L'AMBASCIATA E' IL LUOGO IN CUI LAVORA L'AMBASCIATORE. L'AMBASCIATORE, AIUTATO DA NUMEROSI COLLABORATORI, DEVE RAPPRESENTARE LA PROPRIA PATRIA E AMMINISTRARNE INTERESSI NEL PAESE STRANIERO IN CUI SI TROVA. INOLTRE L'AMBASCIATORE E TUTTE LE PERSONE CHE LAVORANO IN AMBASCIATA  POSSONO SONO FONDAMENTALI PER L'ORGANIZZAZIONE, L'ACCOGLIENZA E L'ASSISTENZA DI TUTTI I CONNAZIONALI  CHE ARRIVANO NEL PAESE.

(The embassy is the place where the ambassador works. Together with his staff, he has to represent his country and to administrate its interests. Indeed, the ambassador and his collaborators have to organise, to welcome and help their nationals who arrive in the new country.)

WHO DOES WHAT?

• CREARE UNA LISTA DI POSSIBILI INVITATI ILLUSTRI

• provide information about the countries' history and current situations 
• research their traditions, cusine and wine
• create a table menù
• describe how you plan to decorate the dining room 
• design an invitation
• organise an appropriate way to welcome your guest
• make a list of celebrity guests from these countries
